Other Driver is Underinsured

Question:
Will I be able to have a claim if the other driver is underinsured?
Answer:
One of the things that we do when someone comes to our office with an automobile accident claim is we find out how much insurance the at fault driver has. That’s one of the very first things that we look into. We also look into how much uninsured motorist or underinsured motorist coverage that you purchased for this reason. Sometimes we find out that the at fault driver, the driver who hurt you, either has no insurance or doesn’t have enough insurance to cover all of your injuries. In that event, we look for other coverage, and hopefully, you had the foresight to purchase underinsured or uninsured motorist. That is an optional coverage in the state of Florida. The agent will ask you if you want it, and if you don’t, you sign a written rejection of that. We counsel people always to get that coverage because you never know who is driving out there underinsured or without insurance, period. Protect yourself with underinsured or uninsured motorist coverage in that event. If you’ve been hurt under those circumstances in an automobile accident case in Nassau County, Duval County, or any of the other counties in northeast Florida or southeast Georgia, call us. We’ll sit down and go over things and figure out how best to help you.
